| Pony Trekking on
Exmoor ponies in the beautiful surroundings of the Pentland Hills. Be captivated by the charm of our Exmoor ponies.
This unique riding experience is run by students of the Royal Dick
School of Veterinary Studies, perpetuating a trekking tradition spanning almost 50
years. We offer weekend day treks in the Pentland Hills and during the
Summer midweek or weekend breaks based at Glendevon (see entry
under 'Perthshire'). All standards of ability welcome. Children
of 8 to 12 years must be accompanied by an adult. Hats provided. Mount
Lothian Farm is located on the minor road B6372 near the village of Howgate. TO BOOK
(Mount Lothian) You will need boots or shoes with a small heel suitable for riding in, warm clothes including comfortable trousers (jodhpurs or tracksuit bottoms), gloves and waterproofs, a packed lunch (an apple or carrot for your pony - they will love you if you do) , £2 bus/petrol money and payment for the trek (cheques payable to EUEPTS). Weight limit 11.5 stone (76kg). Hats are provided. If using your own it must meet current safety requirements PAS015/BSEN1384. Trek Leaders will contact you the night before to arrange a meeting point and time. The Lothian bus service 37, 47/47X (pick it up outside Blockbusters on South Clerk Street, or at the East/West Preston Street junction) goes to Penicuik (make sure you get off at Somerfield), where you will be met by your Trek Leader who will take you to the ponies by car.
